Katy Days Art Ready to Go!

All done with the artwork for this years Katy Days festival in good ole’ Parsons, Kansas! “Army Train” is on an 8′ long panel panel and will be framed. ”Big Boy” (the illustration of the massive UP steam locomotive) is on a 4′x1′ canvas. ”The Robbery of the Katy Flyer” is on a 4′x2′ canvas. In addition to the originals there will be a limited number of prints available of these three paintings and of some of the previous years trains as well as many originals priced to sell. I’ll be demo painting from 9 to 5 on saturday so come on by and say Hi. And if you feel so inclined bring me some BBQ. Please.

All done but for a few touch ups and a few shadows. The army train is completed too. Just one more painting to go and then I’ll be packing up and heading down to Parsons.

A Bunch O Trains

It all started with a bunch of spare canvases cobbled together to make a big things-that-go type painting for my sons nursery (First one shown below). Well one thing lead to another and I was asked to paint at Katy Days. It’s hard to believe this will be my fourth year participating in that festival. I’ll admit, I look forward to Katy Days mainly because it gives me an excuse to paint trains. Makes me feel like a kid!

Katy Days is next weekend (Memorial Weekend) at Forest Park in Parsons, Kansas. Come on out!

Almost there on this one. Still just have a few logos, touch ups, some minor details and highlights to go but I’m coasting down hill. Oh yeah and an engineer and conductor. After that I move on to finishing up the train robbery painting. Gotta move move move so next week isn’t crazy. Meh, I know me. Next week will be crazy anyways.

Working on a couple paintings for Katy Days 2012 (Memorial weekend in Parsons, KS). Right now I’m fleshing out the detail in the underpaintings. The top one is going to be pretty busy in a good way. Think Train Robbery. I have plans for a total of three new ones for this year. I may leave the third partially unfinished and work on it at Katy Days.

High Card

I did this one for me. It’s based on a dream where I was playing a high stakes game of high card with a stranger, surrounded by onlookers and lots of activity. I took so long trying to imagine what card I was going to draw that by the time I went to actually draw a card I looked up and saw the crowd was gone, as was the person I was playing. It stuck with me.
